Friends! Meet Paige.

She is warm, friendly and chatty. It’s easy to get scooped up into her orbit. Conversation is fun, flowing effortlessly – just like the cups of coffee we enjoyed while dreaming up this shoot.

While we planned for the shoot to honor her true self and all the effort she has put in to create new patterns of relating and releasing old negative family patterns in her story, when we got on location at Hummingbird Hill Flower Farm, it became something different.

Instead it actually became a shoot that honored her inner child, Little Paige. Let me tell you, it was precious to witness the unfolding in real time. It takes a certain amount of vulnerability and connectedness and trust in yourself (and your photographer!)  to go to those young spaces in your heart and give yourself a moment of connection, to feel and move the way that part of you wants to move.

What brings you right back to childhood? Baby animals. We had no idea the flower farm neighbors had miniature horses, and what little girl doesn't love baby animals? We sensed the transition in the moment and went with it. Paige searches for beauty in life, with flowers and plants among her favorites. The Cosmos were poppin, speckled with pink and white. She wore a dress and spun around and laid down on a blanket and then wrapped the blanket around her.

All of these details and movements are a picture of an idyllic childhood. However, Paige’s story was a sharp contrast to our shoot. She has bravely pursued mental health and healing. She’s faced and challenged unhealthy patterns and systems that were harmful, implementing change in her own life. Her awareness of the moment and availability of heart to lean into something different than we planned while allowing me to capture is as vulnerable as it is strong and beautiful. She was able to create a moment in her adulthood to connect with what her inner child wanted to do and that is a beautiful thing. The ability to press into your inner world takes a Braveheart to do that.
